Inspired by the Himalayan Deodar — a tree that stands through storms, harsh winters, and changing seasons without reacting to every gust of wind. That enduring quality is the foundation of every investment decision made here.
During his final internship at JPMorgan Chase, Sambhav Jain realised that financial statements are only one piece of a much larger puzzle. To understand businesses and markets, one must also understand history, human behaviour and the forces that shape decision-making. To truly understand markets, one must look beyond numbers — studying history, first principles, and what remains true even as narratives change. Markets ultimately reward sound reasoning and the ability to see the bigger picture when others focus on details.
His interest in investing began early. He started reading investment classics at 19 and began closely following markets at 20. Over the years, he has come to understand that strong long-term returns and capital preservation are not opposites — but achieving both demands independent thinking and genuine patience. He does not believe in limiting investing to a single style. Markets change. Circumstances change. What works in one decade may not work in the next. Instead, he returns to a few simple questions: "What do I believe that may be wrong?" "What can I see that others don't?" "What is my brain doing to mislead me?" Many of the myths that surround us in life are equally present in investing. Separating reality from popular opinion requires an independent and honest mind. That belief shapes every decision made at Deodar Investments — and it is the foundation on which its investment philosophy is built.
Today, Deodar Investments serves investors with assets under management exceeding ₹50 crores. Beyond investing, Sambhav enjoys studying history, reasoning, and philosophy. He has achieved a GMAT score of 700 and French language proficiency at the B1 level. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time in nature. Nature has strengthened his belief that reality does not change because of our preferences, and that good decisions begin with seeing things as they are rather than as we would like them to be.

The approach is not about predicting what markets will do next month. It is about identifying quality businesses, understanding their enduring strengths, and allowing time to work in the investor's favour. A portfolio is not a collection of tickers — it is a garden, and every tree in it was chosen with care.
The name Deodar comes from the Himalayan Deodar tree. These trees stand tall through storms, harsh winters, and changing seasons. They do not react to every gust of wind. They endure, adapt, and continue growing.
Their roots go deep — deeper than what is visible on the surface. That invisible foundation is what allows them to stand tall when everything around them bends. That enduring quality forms the foundation of Deodar Investments.
Sambhav views a portfolio as a garden. A good garden does not depend on a single tree — it contains mango trees, fig trees, mulberry trees, and many others. Each grows at its own pace and bears fruit in its own season. The goal is to build a garden that keeps bearing fruit year after year.
The objective is not to constantly buy and sell. It is to identify quality seeds, plant them carefully, and allow them the time they need to grow. If a mango tree is healthy, you do not cut it down because the weather changes. You monitor it, nurture it, and give it the years it needs to mature. As long as the underlying business remains sound and the original reasons for owning it remain intact, there is little reason to sell.
The real challenge is not patience itself — most investors understand its importance. The challenge is identifying a mango tree in the first place. There is little value in patiently holding a thorny bush for twenty years and expecting it to become something it never was. At Deodar Investments, the focus is on identifying quality businesses, monitoring them honestly, and allowing time to work in their favour.
